Happy New Year 2009!

January 1st, 2009

Well, today is the first day of a new year……hope everyone was safe last night. We rented a few movies and were home by 7pm. Any new year’s resolutions? I guess I’ll have to think of one…hmmm…I’ll get back to you.

I had the day off work so I’ve just been sitting around all day, and right now the Nebraska-vs-Clemson game is on tv, we just made a touchdown (hoo-ray!).

I’ve discovered “the greatest thing ever”. It’s a little thing called “hand warmers”. “Little Hotties” is what they’re called. You open the little package, shake up the little packet, and it warms up & lasts for 4-8 hours.

3rd quarter another touchdown for Nebraska…score now neb 16/clem 21…x-tra point good, score now 17-21. GO BIG RED. Tiger #28 just lost his shoe (ha). 20-21 (we’re gaining on them quick).

Channel surfing. There’s a Twilight Zone marathon on SciFi, on now is the one with Jonathan Winters as a dead pool player. OH NOW there’s William Shatner in the next one. My-my doesn’t he just have the Longest Eye Lashes? And so THIN. This is the one where his new bride and him are stuck in the diner feeding pennies to the little devil-head Q&A machine in the booth.

Switched back to the game, now we’re ahead 23-21 in 4th quarter. Clemson thought they had another touchdown, but no sorry, you can’t have that one (yay). Knees down, ball out… I usually don’t like watching football, but it’s turning out to be a pretty entertaining game. 26-21 and they’re letting the clock run out. One final snap and I guess we win!

Well, I guess I’m enjoying my New Years Day, hope you are too! Later…

Happy Holidays!

December 26th, 2008

Well, we had a nice Christmas Eve. Went over to our friends’ place, had a “cup of cheer” (or 2), opened a couple of presents, took a few pictures, played some Wii bowling. Spent Christmas Day at home, had some Godfathers pizza, played some Wii games, and just generally laid around and did nothing. None of my boys could make it for Christmas, but we’re going to get together after Pat moves back in January.

I don’t have to be back to work till Monday, so maybe will go outside later and enjoy the warm weather…it’s supposed to be almost 50 degrees outside this afternoon. That’s a big change from 15 below 0 like last week! It’ll almost feel like summer again. Anyway, I hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas! Bye.

Icy roads and a broken tie rod.

December 9th, 2008

The roads were really icy on the way to work today. Had to drive about 35mph all the way there. I got kicked out of work about 4-1/2 hours early, so I decided to order a pizza and head home. On the way home it seemed like the roads were worse than in the morning. I was driving about 25mph or so. I came to the Hwy 22-81 junction, made the turn towards Genoa, and the road seemed to get really icy. The car was wanting to slide all over. I slowed way down to about 10mph and went just about a mile and had to pull over to the side. It seemed like I was stuck in a snowdrift or something cause the car wouldn’t move. The first guys who stopped were going to try to push me out of the drift and noticed that my front wheels were pointed at each other…that’s never good. They said it looked like a broken tie rod. JUST GREAT!!! I’m lucky that it didn’t break when I was going down the road at 65, or passing at 80! I could have been in a really bad wreck. Anyway, I called the roadside assistance number in my extended warranty package, and just about an hour later along came the Behlen Towing truck. I’m surprised at just how many people stopped to help. One of them was my neighbor, who offered to take my pizza home for me (LOL). A state trooper drove by, and then his counterpart (they travel in pairs ya know) stopped and made sure that I was getting help and staying warm (and that I was the owner of the car etc). I got ahold of Bill too, and he was there to give me a ride to the Ford dealer where they towed my car. Wow, I’m sure lucky to be sitting here writing this, instead of in the hospital or dead. (Maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket huh?). OK, that’s all for today, oh yeah, the pizza was delicious!

Hot potato!

December 4th, 2008

I stopped into the new clothing shop on 13th St. today. It’s called “Hot Potato”. They sell vintage clothing and accessories. Well, they have Goodwill quality clothing for NEW YORK PRICES! I walked through and walked back out. I’m not paying $10 for a $1 used shirt, or $20 for a $2 or $3 pair of jeans. I don’t think that store will be open for long with those prices. The guy behind the register (I think it was even the owner) didn’t even look at me or speak to me until I started out the door. Bad form….

Happy Birthday to me yesterday…

November 30th, 2008

We met some friends and went out to eat at the First and Ten Bar in Bellwood, played some pool, then went over to their place and bowled on the WII for a while. I had fun. Today I’ve just been laying around all day. I think I’ll go to town and get some groceries, I only have a pound of hamburger in the freezer.
And if my 3 boys read this…thanks ever so much for the fine birthday greetings! I loved the new car, boat, and beach house they gave me. The kidney shaped pool in the back yard was a nice touch. I’ll remember them at Christmas with a Caribbean cruise or something equally fantastic…

My ship came in!

Just kidding…I just wanted to know how it felt to say that…
