Icy roads and a broken tie rod.
The roads were really icy on the way to work today. Had to drive about 35mph all the way there. I got kicked out of work about 4-1/2 hours early, so I decided to order a pizza and head home. On the way home it seemed like the roads were worse than in the morning. I was driving about 25mph or so. I came to the Hwy 22-81 junction, made the turn towards Genoa, and the road seemed to get really icy. The car was wanting to slide all over. I slowed way down to about 10mph and went just about a mile and had to pull over to the side. It seemed like I was stuck in a snowdrift or something cause the car wouldn’t move. The first guys who stopped were going to try to push me out of the drift and noticed that my front wheels were pointed at each other…that’s never good. They said it looked like a broken tie rod. JUST GREAT!!! I’m lucky that it didn’t break when I was going down the road at 65, or passing at 80! I could have been in a really bad wreck. Anyway, I called the roadside assistance number in my extended warranty package, and just about an hour later along came the Behlen Towing truck. I’m surprised at just how many people stopped to help. One of them was my neighbor, who offered to take my pizza home for me (LOL). A state trooper drove by, and then his counterpart (they travel in pairs ya know) stopped and made sure that I was getting help and staying warm (and that I was the owner of the car etc). I got ahold of Bill too, and he was there to give me a ride to the Ford dealer where they towed my car. Wow, I’m sure lucky to be sitting here writing this, instead of in the hospital or dead. (Maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket huh?). OK, that’s all for today, oh yeah, the pizza was delicious!
