April Fools Day 2012

April 1st, 2012

Have you been fooled yet today? I haven’t…yet. So once again it’s been forever since I’ve written anything on here. Where do I begin? With the latest news I guess. I went to Roca for a couple days to babysit for Alexander. He had a good time with Grandma and was a happy baby 99% of the time (the 1% being the time I wanted to put a onsie on him and he didn’t want to have clothes on LOL). We took a drive into Lincoln and looked around in Kohl’s and Walmart. I was going to go to the “World’s Biggest Garage Sale” at the Lancaster Events Center, but he was tired and we went back home instead (his home, not mine haha). He got to use his little walker, and liked sleeping in his swing, and really likes his books. He’s a good eater, and even got 2 teeth when I was there. I thoroughly enjoyed my time visiting them!

Easter is coming up next week, and Pat has invited us to eat Easter dinner with them. He’s making ham and other goodies…I’m really looking forward to that! I haven’t been to any easter egg hunts for quite a while, it’s been a long time since I’ve had kids around to do that for.

I’ve been really keeping up on going for a walk every day. I do about 30 minutes every day and I’ve only missed 2 or 3 times since January 1st. When it’s nice outside I walk outside…if it’s not, I use the treadmill. I’m still looking for that “sit-down” job…there’s still no way that I could do a job that requires being on my feet for more than an hour or so… Something will come up eventually…

I got invited to go to the Omaha Zoo last week with Pat & Sam & all the kids & Sam’s parents. Everyone had a fun day looking at the animals and spending time together!

OK, I don’t know what else to write about besides the occasional babysitting for the grandkids…I’ve had the pleasure of watching them all from time to time, and I really do enjoy it! I don’t think I could have kids around full-time though…been there done that. Getting too old for that (did I just say that?).

That’s all I can think of for now…maybe I’ll write more later…

November…

November 8th, 2011

November already…time is really flying by. Time goes faster as you get older. I remember people saying that when I was young, but I never knew how it would feel. You look in the mirror and notice more wrinkles every day and everything else going south (not to mention all the aches and pains and things not working like they used to)…but no one ever told you that you still feel the same mentally as when your skin was smooth and tanned and there was no cellulite to be seen. When I was a kid it seemed to take forever just to get to the end of the week so I could watch Saturday morning cartoons. Now there are cartoons on at any given time of day. I still surf past the cartoon network once in a while just to watch Bugs Bunny or Tom & Jerry. I loved watching The Jetsons too…now I want to pull out one of those Jane Jetson masks for my face when I Skype LOL. Ah, we’re living in the future…better than living in the past I guess…

Thanksgiving is coming up in a couple weeks, and after that another birthday. I’m not sure what’s going on for Thanksgiving yet, we might have turkey, or not. As for my birthday, nothing planned at all (don’t ask me how old I’ll be, I stopped counting a long time ago lol). We’ll probably try to get the kids and grandkids together again for Christmas though. It’s always more fun when kids are around for Christmas. Anyway, for Thanksgiving it’s always nice to think about what you’re thankful for…this year I’m thankful that for the first time in 13 years I won’t have to be out in the madness on black friday. Believe me, I won’t miss the zoo animals crashing the gates (stupid people…). Anyone who has worked retail can relate I’m sure. Even before that though, I never did understand getting up at 2am just to run through the stores fighting to spend money (oh and standing in line for 2 hours to do it)…just to come back in a couple days to return stuff. Oh well…more important than all that is that I’m thankful for my grandkids! I waited SO LONG for grandkids and now I have 3…if I could I would see all of them every day, but unfortunately that’s not the way it works so I see them when I can (and I thoroughly enjoy every minute when I do see them!).

Anyway, I’m still unemployed and looking for work. Still need something where I can sit doing the job, which means office work. I haven’t done that for so long, but I’m sure I wouldn’t have a problem with it. I’ve applied for a lot of jobs…no interviews yet…only got a couple of calls, but those were from Omaha (I guess they got my resume from applications I filled out online). I don’t think it would be a very good thing to drive to Omaha every day to work, or even to rent a place there during the week and come home on weekends. So I keep looking and hoping something will come up soon.

I hope everyone had a fun Halloween. We had about 70 trick-or-treaters this year (about 20 more than usual)…that might be because I didn’t put the dead army guy and the grim reaper out on the porch this year and didn’t have the scary music cd playing. That probably scared the really little kids away. I didn’t dress up this year either. Usually I dress up as an indian girl with the black yarn wig and moccasin boots and so on. When I thought about it later, I should have just dressed up as a Husker Fan…anyone who knows me will get that one lol.

Well, I guess that’s all I have for today. If you would like to leave a comment, please do so. If not…I hope you at least had a good read. See ya, love ya, bye.

Halloween is almost here.

October 28th, 2011

So, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything on here hasn’t it? I doubt if very many people are actually interested in anything that I have to say anyway…but here goes…

Not a lot has changed since my last post. I did go on a little road trip with my friend Sue. She had a wedding to attend in South Dakota at the end of September, and I rode back to Montana with her. We stopped at quite a few interesting places on the way, and I took lots of pictures (none of which I have posted yet). I met her husband Lynn for the first time, and that’s amazing because they’ve been married for ummm 10 or 11 years (sorry Sue, I forgot how long exactly). I had a good time and got to fly back to Omaha after.

Well, I’ve been married for 35 years now…not much has changed there either…time flies when you’re having fun right? We were going to go on a vacation for our anniversary, but that didn’t happen. There’s a possibility that we’ll go someplace warm in January, but not sure where yet. We did go out to the Ag Park in Columbus for Saint Anthony’s Bizaar though. Got our turkey dinners to go and went to Adam and Evie’s house to eat them. That was fun, and I loved seeing the baby again too.

I finally have a diagnosis for some of the health problems I’ve been having over the last year. The rheumatologist said that I have Osteoarthritis in my neck and spine among other things age related. Not a whole lot they can do for that. I’m starting a month of physical therapy to try to get some strength back in my legs and back. Then maybe I’ll finally get another job someplace where I can sit instead of being on my feet all the time like the last 13 years. Wish me luck.

Halloween is coming up on Monday…I didn’t decorate out on the front porch like I usually do…just didn’t feel like it this year. The candy is bought though, and I had to hide it so we still have some when Halloween comes around.

OK, I don’t have much else right now…if you read this and would like to comment, feel free to do that! See ya, love ya, bye.

Fall is in the air.

September 11th, 2011

So it’s been a while since I’ve written anything on here. It looks like my last post was in July (almost 2 months ago) deep in the heat of summer. This past week it felt like fall with the temperatures cool at night and not too hot in the daytime. The fields of soybeans are starting to turn yellow, and some of the leaves are starting to fall off the trees, and it won’t be long before that 4 letter word starts to fall from the sky…ick.

Anyway, the most important change since July is that (joining the Bug who’s over a year old now) I now have 2 new grandsons! They were both born within a week of each other. The first one born on August 29, and the second born on September 4. My nicknames for them are Peanut and Rocky. Peanut’s mom had a relatively short and easy labor, and is feeling well enough to go back to work next week. Rocky’s mom on the other hand, had a very long and difficult labor, and I’m sure won’t be going back to work for quite a while as she will be recouperating from a C-section. I was honored to be there at the hospitals for all of their births. Christmas will be fun this year, and even more fun as the grandkids get bigger.

I’ve been out of work now for over 2 months. I get unemployment, but I’d much rather be working. I’ve been applying for jobs all over, but haven’t had any interviews. I can’t do any job anymore where I’ll have to spend any amount of time on my feet…I need something where I can sit because the problems I’ve been having with my legs just aren’t going away. I used to be able to work on my feet for 9 or 10 hours at a time with a couple of breaks in there. Lately it’s hard for me to be on my feet for more than an hour. It takes a day for me to recover from getting groceries. I’ve got a couple more MRI’s scheduled for tomorrow. The neurologist thinks it might have something to do with the nerves in my back being compressed somehow, either by bad discs or something else, but he won’t know for sure until he sees the results from those MRI’s. Well one good thing about all this is that at least it’s not MS…

Does anybody know of a good “work at home on the computer” job I could get? I’ve looked online at a lot of different ones…they say you should never pay for one of these kinds of jobs, and I can agree with that. There are a lot of scams out there for this type of job, so I’m reluctant to even try for one of these, although it would be the perfect job for me…I could sit while I work and not have to drive for a half-hour or more to get to work. I always did hate driving on bad roads in the winter.

Well I guess whatever happens…happens…right? No use stressing over stuff if you don’t have to…I should just start looking forward to the future and try to make the best of things. I do have something in the near future to look forward to though…my road trip with my friend Sue in a couple weeks. We’re just going to take our time and see and do whatever we want to along the way. Once we’re in Montana, we’ll have ourselves a spa day on the 30th for sure, and I’ll fly back to Nebraska on October 2nd. This little road trip was all Bill’s idea (wasn’t that nice?)…he will hold down the fort at home for that time, just him and the cat.

Something else to look forward to is our 35th wedding anniversary coming up in October. Bill wants us to do something for that, like take some kind of road trip ourselves, but we haven’t settled on what to do yet…plenty of time to decide. I remember that 10 years ago today terrorists were crashing planes into the twin towers, and we were wondering if we would still be taking our cruise for our 25th anniversary. In the weeks after that, we were told to not change our travel plans because of terrorists…so we went on our trip and were glad we did. I’m remembering all those people who lost their lives that day, and hope that their families are comforted by the memorial that is now in place where the twin towers stood…

I suppose I’ve said enough for today…hope you didn’t get bored. OK, take care. See ya, love ya, bye.

Summer in Nebraska…it can’t be beat! Unless it’s by a blizzard and frozen feet!

July 19th, 2011

(I’m a poet…lol 🙂 and sarcastic too). As everyone already knows, it’s been a HOT couple of weeks here in Nebraska. But at least the roads are clear…no blizzard conditions… The point is that there’s always going to be weather of some kind out there, so be prepared to act accordingly. Drink lots of water and use sunscreen in the summer. Or dress in layers to keep warm in the winter. Regardless…there will always be weather to complain about.

I’m eagerly awaiting the births of 2 more grandbabies, both due within 2 weeks of each other. I hope they both wait to be born until closer to their due dates. 2 of my nieces went early, but thankfully the babies are doing ok.

Lets see…what else is new? Oh yeah, I’m no longer working. I prefer not to discuss the circumstances of my unemployment, but lets just say that I’m on an extended leave. I’m looking around for another job where I won’t have to be on my feet for 9 or 10 hours a day. Maybe a nice day job in an office with no weekends. I worked at the same place for 13 years, and that was long enough. Time for a change for the better!

I’ve been trying to at least walk to the post office and back every day. Some days are better than others. What I should really do is start going through the storage closets and get rid of some stuff. That’s harder to get started on than it sounds. It’s kind of overwhelming when I think about it. I would like to maybe have a rummage sale, but every other time I tried that it was more work than it was worth. I never made much money, and ended up just taking the stuff to Goodwill afterwards anyway. I have an EBay account, but have never used it. Another thing I should do is go through my old pictures…but then again there are a lot of other things I could be doing now that I have the time…one day at a time I guess.

Something I’m looking forward to is a road trip at the end of September. My friend Sue who lives in Montana is going to a wedding in Yankton on the last Saturday of September, and after spending a couple days with friends and family, will be stopping here on her way back to Livingston. I will be riding back with her and taking a plane back home on October 1st. It will be a fun trip with lots of stops along the way, with the grand finale of a spa day at Chico Hot Springs in Paradise Valley on the Friday before I go home. I’ve never been there, so it will be a real treat!

Well, I suppose I’d better close this for today. I’ll try to write things down here more often than I have been. OK, bye for now.

You wroooock mawbelus dawling!!!

June 26th, 2011

I was just thinking of older episodes of Saturday Night Live with Billy Crystal…I don’t know why, it just popped into my head.

Congratulations to Steve and Jessica! Their party was a huge success! Jess looked just marvelous (oh that’s why this is titled that way lol). Jess’s parents and family really went all-out. Everyone put in a lot of effort for the “event of the season”. They had a great turn-out, and we met lots of new people…99% of them I probably won’t be able to name if I tried!

Jessica introduced us to her parents. I’m glad we finally met them. Steve and Julie seem like friendly down-to-earth people, and we got along just great! (Jess, you didn’t need to worry did you? lol). Welcome to the Korgie clan girly, and remember this always…us outlaws stick together (“outlaws” are the ones who marry into the Korgie clan if you didn’t already know). I really hope we see you guys more often after my grandson arrives (I’m getting excited!). We love you guys!

Anyway, we stayed at the Super 8 in Alma. It was the “newest motel in town” and was fairly clean. They had food in the lobby in the mornings…no waffle maker but had mini blueberry muffins that were good and various bagels, rolls, bread for toast, cereal, fruit and juice etc, and instant hot choc mix to put in my coffee. We would have loved to go to the breakfast this morning, but someone wanted an early start.

I can’t close this without mentioning our dining experience Friday evening at a brand new restaurant that opened in a place that had been a mexican restaurant. It was opening night, and the cook quit just before that…so we waited 2-1/2 hours after we ordered for our food to arrive. The thing about that was that it was a very pleasant night on their deck by the water, no bugs to speak of, nice cool breeze off the water, pleasant company, and free nachos and drinks! When we finally got our food, it was really good…except the potatoes…the fries were cold and the baked potatoes were hard. But all-in-all a truly enjoyable time! It was a good weekend, and we sure are tired…zzzzzzzzzzzz
